“Actions speak louder than words”

“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”

“Easier said than done”

If you happen to live on this planet we call Earth i’m sure you’ve heard all these before. Some of these quotes have been used to describe every part of human life from relationships, marriages, careers, personal growth, weight-loss, and sports. They are the motto’s of our race, some more true than others. But one thing they each have in common is Action. Movement. Momentum, Doing, Acting.

I’ve never been one to say what i’m thinking or what I plan on doing. I’ve always gone by the philosophy that its better to show the results of what you did rather than talking about what you were going to do. Whether that works or not is still up for debate but I can tell you it’s not that helpful when you have a wife who gets upset that you don’t tell her everything, sorry babe. The reason that is my philosophy is because a lot of times “talk is cheap” (forgot to add that one above). People say what they want or what they are going to do or their plans for world domination, yada yada yada. But they do not always follow through. For me not talking has always been the safe route, if you don’t put out there what your plans are then no one will know if you fall flat on your face except for you. I think it’s about time I changed that.

The Greg V Miller Blog Spot is about embracing change. I can’t help my readers bring about change in their lives unless i’m willing and ready to do it for myself. (Brings to mind another quote, “Don’t talk about it, be about it”).

So here we go…..

Back in December, around the same time I began this blogging journey and self-discovery adventure, I wrote an e-mail to myself. Trust me it was not something I planned on sharing at all. But part of growing is putting yourself in uncomfortable positions, making yourself vulnerable to new experiences, and tapping into your creativity. So I present for the world to see Greg V Miller’s letter of inspiration:

My Goals as of 12/15/09

Hello Greg,

This is yourself writing to you. Right now you are sitting in the company office in Fairfield. It’s 3:06 PM and you don’t want to do any work (as if that’s different from any other day). Anyways, the reason that I am writing to you is because you have things that you want to do. Goals you want to achieve, and you’re still trying to figure out who you really are. You need to define what success is so I’m hoping to help you do that. Below i’ve taken the liberty to write out your goals at the current time. You’ve been doing a lot of thinking, a lot of reading, and a lot of searching within your self. I think it’s about time you go for it. You are one of the smartest people that I know. And i’m giving you the advice that you would give other people which is to go for it. Do it. You have doubts, I know. You have worries, I know. But you have something that no one else in this universe has. Your mind. AND you have Kisha. But your mind isn’t the most brilliant, doesn’t know everything nor does it care to know everything. But it has a spark. There is something deeper inside your mentality towards life. There’s an inner strength that can take on the world with no army, that can change the world with one stroke, that can liberate a nation from itself. And if it can do all that, then you can do these goals below. I know what you’re thinking. I’ve never put that much effort into anything. But you will because you can, because you’re capable. No body has to tell you that you’re a smart guy, you already know. Your life and where you are has not been by chance or luck, or some supreme driving force. Everything you have has come to you by the decisions you have made. Whether they were wrong or right, helped you or someone else, selfish or selfless. Those are decisions we have to make in life. And you’ve made them. You have set goals for yourself in the past and achieved them. You wanted to go to school and learn computers, get a job doing what you were interested in, get your own place, buy a car, get married. And look at you, look in the mirror and tell me you haven’t done all those things. Because you have. Because you wanted to. And now that all those things are done, your mind is stirring again. You want more and no matter what anyone tells you, your suppose to want more. It’s natural, there’s nothing wrong with going for more because it’s what drives us and makes us feel alive. You know the rules and you know yourself. But don’t get complacent, don’t get comfortable. YOU HAVE TO KEEP MOVING. You can do it. I feel it in your bones and in your mind, and yes…..even in your soul. Get out of your comfort zone Greg and move forward because honestly, I don’t think you’re going to regret it. And I wouldn’t lie to you because I couldn’t. I’m you and I want you to do this so bad. I want to keep talking to you but it’s time for you to move forward. You’ve achieved your goals thus far in life and have succeeded, now get it out there and achieve these as well. I love you man.

Goals

Start an IT Consulting business focusing on consumers and small business. Build this up enabling you to bring in extra income, then passive income, and then it becoming your primary source of income.
Once I have a new source of income quit my day job and work permanently for myself.
Start writing my Novel and get it done before November 2010. Minimum 80,000 words.
Get my Novel published so that it can provide additional income.
Start a blog for my domain gregvmiller.com which will help to get me writing. The blog will focus on writing, goals, success, sports in relation to life, music in relation to life. It will be my Brand.
In November enter the writing Novel competition which will end up being my 2nd Novel.
Start working out regularly, nothing heavy just pushups, situps, pullups, stretching, and some cardio.
Be a better husband and look forward to being a father.

So there it is. There I am. No holding back, untied and unrestrained.
I initially titled this post “The Art Of Being Creative”. But as I started writing it didn’t seem to really fit. There’s something we all forget and i’m not sure if it happens at some point during high school, after high school, or when we get our foot into the working world. And what that is is that we can be whatever we want to be. Sometimes that means going against the grain and removing the templates that we think we’re suppose to follow in life. Complacency is the evil brother of growth and if you’re not paying attention, he can be hard to recognize.
So who are you? And if you don’t know what actions are you taking to become that person?
